III a. pr. m .e. buvo pastatytas dar vienas iš septynių pasaulio stebuklų – Aleksandrijos švyturys, kuriam buvo lemta išstovėti net apie 1500 metų, kol jo vėl neįveikė tos pačios gamtos jėgos – žemės drebėjimai. Šis, pats garsiausias pasaulio švyturys buvo skirtas laivams orientuotis, kurie tuo metu plaukdavo į Aleksandrijos uostą. Egiptas, Aleksandrija – statybos truko apie 20 metų ir buvo baigtos apie 282 m. pr. m. e. Aleksandrijos švyturį buvo nuspręsta pastatyti nedidelėje Faro salelėje, netoli paties miesto.
Aleksandrijos švyturys
Kai kurių informacinių šaltinių teigimu, švyturys buvo dengtas baltu marmūru ir jį sudarė trijų pakopos. Pirmoji – 65 metrų aukščio kvadratinis pamatas, kuriame gyveno kareiviai ir darbininkai. Antroji pakopa – virš pirmosios buvo sukurta 30 metrų aukščio bokštas, kuris turėjo aštuonis kampus. Trečioji pakopa – buvo 9 metrų kupolas, kuris buvo paremtas marmurinių kolonų, o tarp jų degė švyturio ugnis. Pačią švyturio viršūne puošė bronzinė skulptūra. Viso statinio aukštis galėjo siekti net 134 metrus, tai byloja kai kurie rasti istoriniai šaltiniai. Vieninteliai statiniai pasaulyje, kurie gali aukščiu aplenkti didžiausią pasaulio švyturį yra tik Gizos piramidės.

Įsivaizduokite, kokios jis buvo dydžio, jei kuras švyturiui, tuo metu buvo vežamas mulais ar arklių traukiamais vežimais. Dideli bronziniai veidrodžiai buvo skirti šviesos atspindžio nukreipimui į jūros pusę, todėl praplaukiantys ar atvykstantys laivai, Aleksandrijos švyturį galėjo pastebėti net už 50 kilometrų, kad tikrai daro didelį įspūdį net ir dabartiniams plaukiotojams bei jūreiviams. Todėl panašios istorijos traukia ne vieną pigios keliones mėgėją, bei istorijos žinovą. Šio objekto vietą kasmet aplanko milijonai turistų ir ne tik pasiklausyti, bet ir pažiūrėti, bei pasisemti istorinės stiprybės.
Legendos kalbam kad didžiuliai, iš bronzos pagaminti veidrodžiai buvo naudojami dar ir priešo laivų vietos nustatymui bei deginimui, jiems dar nepriplaukus prie kranto.
Nors Aleksandrijos švyturys neišsilaikė iki mūsų laikų, bet jo kaip švyturio dvasia gyvena iki dabar, nes jis tapo prototipu švyturiams, kurie statomi net iki šių dienų. Daugelio pasaulio šalių pakrantėse.
