Žinomas ir garsus Atėnų skulptorius Feidijas buvo išrinktas garsiosios skulptūros kūrėjo, nes Olimpijos gyventojai nusprendė pastatyti šventyklą aukščiausio to meto dievo garbei – Dzeusui. Tai įvyko V a. pr. m. e., kai senovės Graikijos gyventojai subrendo statyboms ir savo norus įgyvendino 466-456 m. pr. m. e. Feidijas buvo pasirinktas ne atsitiktinai, jo darbų kolekcijoje puikavosi kelios statulos ir Atėnei. Šventykla buvo pastatyta iš didelių akmens luitų, kuriuos supo kolonos. Pritariame, statinys yra įspūdingas.

Galima apibūdinti kaip šventykloje viskas atrodė. Pati Dzeuso statula buvo pastatyta šventykloje. Šventyklos ilgis siekė apie 64 metrus ilgio, o plotis 28 metrus. Vidinės patalpos taip pat buvo įspūdingos ir siekė iki 20 metrų aukštį. Patalpų gale, buvo galima pamatyti sėdintį dievą – Dzeusą, kuris galva rėmė lubas, jo kūnas iki juosmens buvo apnuogintas. Statula buvo pagaminta iš medžio, jo oda sukurta iš dramblio kaulo, o rūbai suprantama, iš aukso plokščių. Užsimerkite ir pabandykite įsivaizduoti… Dievas sėdi soste, kuris padabintas įvairiausiais brangakmeniais bei juodmedžiu. Vienoje rankoje jis laikė Nikės skulptūrą, kuri reiškia pergalės deivę, o kita ranka rėmėsi ar laikė ilgą skeptrą. Dviejų metrų kolonos, jos juosė visą statinį ir atrėdė labai įspūdingai, nes Dzeuso sosto šonus tapė pats Panonas – Feidijo padėjėjas ir giminaitis. Gal todėl, iki mūsų laikų išliko taisyklė, kad darbais dalintis reikia ne su specialistais, bet giminaičiais. Suprantama, čia buvo pokštas ir jokiu būdu nenoras ką nors įžeisti.
